An international poetry journal based in Mississippi. We are open to a wide range of styles and to poets from all backgrounds. We accept no-fee submissions year-round with an annual deadline of July 15 for that year's issue.

Poetry South is an international journal of poetry published annually by the Creative Writing program at Mississippi University for Women. Established in 2009, the magazine showcases a diverse range of poetic voices, with a particular emphasis on writers from the American South—those born, raised, or residing in the region. However, it also features poets from other parts of the United States and around the world, reflecting a global perspective on contemporary poetry. ([muw.edu]())

The journal is edited by Kendall Dunkelberg, a faculty member in the MFA program, and students enrolled in the low-residency MFA program. This collaborative approach provides emerging writers with hands-on editorial experience while maintaining the magazine's high literary standards. ([muw.edu]())

Poetry South accepts submissions year-round, with an annual deadline of July 15 for each issue. Contributors are invited to submit one to four unpublished poems in Word format, accompanied by a brief bio of 80 words or less. The magazine is open to a wide array of poetic styles and themes, aiming to present a rich tapestry of voices that breathe new life into the poetry of the South. ([muw.edu]())

Subscription rates are $10 for one year and $18 for two years, with additional postage charges for international subscribers. All rights revert to the authors after publication, with the request that Poetry South be credited with the initial publication. ([muw.edu]())
