Papa's Got a Brand New Browse

What's changed?!

Browse

• No more sidebar! Filters are now inside the Filters button beside the search bar so you can have a full-page browsing experience.
• New tag-style browsing mechanism. As you filter, your selections will now be made into little tags that sit above the selection window. Change your mind on a filter? Just hit the little "X" to update the selection.
• New quick-add feature. Just click the "+" button on the main browse to the right of the search bar to let us know about any magazines not in our database.
• Smoother search (we've got some major updates coming to our smart search, but for now we've fixed the bug where it would search before you were done typing which caused a bit of annoyance because it would deselect the search). It was a hassle. But fixed!

Filters

• New filters: Our filters have been moved into a pop-up window to allow for a cleaner browsing experience. When you want to filter, just click the Filters button to see the pop-up.
• Segmented filters: As we expand, we'll be adding more and more filtering options. So! We've sectioned them out by genre, essentials, and advanced after analyzing how often each filter was used. (For now, we haven't added any new filters.)
• New vibes! (That actually mean something.) So for a long time our vibes were sort of random. But now, thanks to our stats, we were able to create new ones and apply parameters to the vibes. No, we're not saying what they are. See if you can figure it out.
• Counters: We've added counters to style, sub-genre, and country so as you filter, you can see how many magazines are left in each.
• There's also several new little odds and ends within the filters to make the experience more smooth and enjoyable. There are too many to count!

Cards

• New browse cards with issue covers instead of logos. We wanted to find a better way to show off how cool magazines can be and how much work is getting put into them. When you're filtering for magazines, we want folks to see them as these creative projects made by people, not just a list of where you can submit.
• New genre markers on browse cards (hover over them to discover whether they are open or closed for your genre). Hint: green means open, gray means closed.
• Also there are hover-state tool tips for everything on our new cards. So just hold your pointer of anything to see what it's all about!

We've also updated the look and feel of our contest and indie press browses to match!

This has been something we've wanted to do FOREVER. It's the baseline for a load of changes we'll be implementing over the next year to integrate your writing life with discovering others in the industry on all sides of the gate.
