MFA in Creative Writing at FAU

The MFA in Creative Writing at FAU is a place for community, experimentation, and exploration. Our students take classes in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. We also offer courses in literary translation, creative writing pedagogy, flash, writing the environment, and more. We encourage students to take classes across the genres and to take risks in their writing. Students can complete certificates in translation; environmental humanities; and women, gender, and sexuality studies. They can do internships for credit and can choose from a wide variety of literature courses. Our award-winning creative writing faculty are widely published and have appeared in the Pushcart anthology, the O. Henry awards, and the Best American series. Our graduates publish their work in venues such as The Atlantic, Virginia Quarterly Review, Black Warrior Review, and many more. Each year, our Off the Page reading series brings renowned writers, agents, and editors to campus for readings and workshops, including the Lawrence A. Sanders writer in residence. Recent visitors include Diana Khoi Nguyen, Matt Bell, Paisley Rekdahl, Mitchell S. Jackson, Sarah Manguso, and Danez Smith. The MFA is also home to Swamp Ape Review, our literary journal run by students.
